Auxiliary Bishop Salvatore J. Cordileone is an auxilary bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego, California. He was ordained a priest on July 9, 1982; appointed auxilary bishop of San Diego by Pope John Paul II on July 5, 2002, and was consecrated bishop on August 21, 2002. The diocese is home to more than 900,000 Catholics in San Diego and Imperial counties. It is the fourth largest diocese in California, with 98 parishes, 16 missions and about 250 priests. He is a native of San Diego, he attended Crawford High School in San Diego, as well as San Diego State University, the University of San Diego and St. Francis Seminary. He also studied at the Pontifical North American College. After ordination he returned to Rome and obtained a doctorate in canon law.
